The last emperor of Shang Dynasty, Zhou, whilst making offerings at the temple of the goddess Nu-wa, inadvertently writes a poem which offends her. Nu-wa sends three monsters to bewitch him. Under the influence of the fox-fairy, Daji, Emperor Zhou committed cruelties. The story relates the overthrowing of Shang Dynasty and the establishment of the Zhou Dynasty by King Wu. It also traces the early life of Patriach Chiang Shang (Jiang Ziya), before he rose to fame as the Prime Minister of the Zhou Dynasty. Then, an incredible catalogue of battles. The Zhous are assisted by the orthodox gods and saints of Taoism and Buddhism, while a heretical sect of monsters alighn themselves with the Shangs. Both sides employed celestial powers against each other. The heretics are defeated. The last emperor of Shang kills himself. King Wu enters the Shang capital and declares himself the first emperor of the Zhou Dynasty. Chiang Shang returns to perform the canonization of the deities. This is the main source of most of the Chinese demi-gods, Buddhas and deities. These include Nezha, the Four Heavenly Kings, the God of Wealth, the God of Thunder, Erh-lang god, his celestial dog, and the fox-fairies. This book is of immense literary value.
